Here are the listed specs[www.slatedroid.com] Allwinners new quad core ARM SoC A31based on A7 architecture (A15 compatible but lower performance while more power efficient).
It boost some unique feature (e.g. USB 3.0 compatibility, A7 as quad - Big-Little concept w/o the Big...)

Beside the CPU part and its rather not yet fully understood performance characteristics the GPU promised to be an interesting part. Although not based on the latest tech it might prove quite powerful (also depends on the unknown frequency).

A POWER VR SGX544 @8 'cores' - might easily beat IPAD2 performance and according to some source it should provide up to 90% of IPAD3 performance. But this needs to be seen first.
It is fully compliant with DirectX 9.0 and OpenGL ES2.0 and even OpenCL.

    True?

At Anandtech they took a look at the SGX543MP2 GPU - which should not much differ from this GPU apart from fully DirectX9 compliance and 'core' count.

    Where is the A40?
As news of the A31 are making their round - there have no infos on the A40 - which was clearly put up on a poster as found here. I am almost sure that the A40 was typo over there.

    There

Here is the main extract from the link about the A31 though.

AllWinner A31 Specifications - quad core

AllWinner A20 Specifications - dual core

    Update
There is also a dual core - Allwinners first I believe - mentioned on the web. Dual core A7 with 'just' dual core Mali-400 GPU - descent but rather at the low end of the current dual core scale.
No clocks mentioned though - but it is drop compatible with A10 - so the market could be quick in adopting these - at least on the hardware side of things.
Be sure that the L2 cache does not sit t 512MB but at 512KB - I guess that's a mistake in the graphic.

Is that true - Allwinner's SoC great to run Linux on - but PowerVR GPU is not?

why 8 cores if it's MP2 (dual core gpu)?
    Maybe "Up to 8 cores"?

The following table is taken from wikipedia. You find the link in the 1st post.

So looking at SGC544 config and assuming you are a marketing guy - 8 logic core for the GPU might makes sense...maybe.. ;-)
