    Hi,

last friday i received a brand new GK802 but after a little bit of trying out i have some probs. First of all i am not aible to set the german keyboard layout for my bluetooth mini keyboard. Second is IMHO not a full play store access for some apps, esp. my favorites like flightradar24 or chrome browser. Now, is ist ossible to fix this with the knowledge of this forum? Or can is send the piece to a tech spec for updating, install or fxing and of course i will donate for this work.

    Hi ralfi,

maybe this would help, look at our Download Area to try several ROMs for your GK802.
    http://vondroid.com/resources/categories/gk802.44/

I think you should try the Custom ROM from deadhp1 which fixes the PlayStore Issue and is Rooted and debloated of some Chinese Apps.

Mmmh, i think thats a little bit to difficult for me. Although I have some experience with Linux, but I was hope to find here a way that I can send someone the stick which installed a custom-, rootet- or unbuntu version. Regardless i donate this project... ;-)

Okay, after reading many posts i decide to try it... For safety reasons i take a brand new 8GB Class 10 sd card.
And i try to install ubuntu 12.04 like Jas Hacks this describe.

I use the post at http://jas-hacks.blogspot.co.uk/ and the script from http://stende.no-ip.info/files/mksdcard_jas_1204.sh. I am looking at the script inside, download the Kernel, u-boot and Linaro comperessed Filesystem and the skript works. I have now one partition Ext4 /dev/sde1 with a filesystem structure like a "normal" harddisk linux installation - but it do not start.

I was already worried whether I have made the stick broken by clumsiness but with the origin android sdc android will start.

After the first non-successfull try i think this could be happen if something at the start environment goes wrong and i use the dd command to transfer the u-boot.imx and the uImage_cpufreq tio my new sdc. But i do not work.

Now, my question, what could be wrong?

Mmmh, now it works, but the performance with linaro ubuntu 12.04 leaves much to be desired. And some ubuntu apps crashs often. I have installed the complete german localization and some favourite apps with apt-get like vlc. The chipset heat is incredibly.

Conclusion with Ubuntu 12.04 ARM on GK802: After removing of bluez, complete cups, hpijs and so on and not really needed, complete localization in german and spending much time i think you can use the GK802 but there are many limitations. First of all, Flash 11.* is not available for this ARM platform, power-management do not wake up the desktop-manager, vlc, mplayer/2 do not work and ubuntu unity is slow. xubuntu (xfce4) works good, also with libreoffice. Network management with wicd is IMHO a good alternative to network-manager.
I think android 4.x should be work better...
