    Hi
I'm new at this & want to root my MK808B so I can install Teamviewer & backup facility etc.
in the instruction below only addresses
How To - Root MK808B with Firmware below #26 !
How To - Root MK808B with Firmware below #26 !
    http://vondroid.com/threads/how-to-root-mk808b-with-firmware-below-26.5215/#.UdxRXD6Xjls

    it also says:
If you have #26 you only have to install SU-apk from the Play Store and give it Permission !
I went on playstore & it mentions that SU can only be installed on a rooted device (Catch 22!!!)

however there is no mention of anything above #26 ???
    I have Kernel Version: 3.0.8+ olsen_V_402j1 #34
    Build number: mk808b_402j1_17-01-2013
    Android Version 4.1.1

which tells me I have firmware #34 - can someone please tell me step by step how to root this device?

I'd like to root it anyway, but I believe if I root it & then install CM ROM then I can install Teamviewer so I can remotely control my andriod remotely via my Mac (pls note Teamviewer QuickSupport only support Samsung android but hopefully when I root it, it may open it up)

    Thx

Why don't you use a newer custom Rom with root included?

    Hi
    Thank you I'm so grateful
however I tried the steps & managed to eventually only manually install the USB driver successfully using Device manager as the ROM FLash Tool.exe wouldnt find it,
then restarted the PC & MK808B,
connected the MK808B again & ROM FLash Tool.exe couldnt find it again -
so I pressed the reset button again, heard the noise on PC & it was connected -
I then started the ROM FLash Tool.exe & this time found it!
however it was still in reset state i.e. no blue light - I decided to Reboot to Flash Mood, now that I have found the device, but came with an error "Device can not do flash Mode, because it is not msc device"
I know I have installed the correct drivers as in Device manager there is no longer a yellow icon!
I tried this a several times but ROM FLash Tool.exe will only find the MK808B when its been manually reset & then it comes with error message again
what does this mean? can I not root it at all? pls help!!!
I have uploaded the log file
oh & I tried the alternate_reboot_to_flash_tool & the same here it would only connect when it was in rest mode & when I presses Switch it gave error Layer 8-3 this Operation didnt do because of not supporting!

Boot up your device, go-to menu, usb and at the right upper edge into settings and change msc device...

Read my guide how to get mk808b into flash mode. You only need to press and hold reset, nothing more... you find how to at this guide...

You're on the right way, don't give up now

Only connect your otg cable and before that, press and hold reset. Do not connect any other cables. If you got no blue light, your correct, that's it. That's flash mode

oh this is so frustrating I know I'm nearly there BUT!
As per your instruction I went to menu, into other Settings (with Blue Screen) then Device & then unticked MTP & ticked USB Mass Storage
This time the ROM FLash Tool.exe FOUND it BUT when I pressed Boot to Flash Mode it came with the error "Flash Mode Failed"
I then reset (no blue light) ran ROM FLash Tool.exe FOUND it BUT when I pressed Boot to Flash Mode it came with the error "Device can not do flash Mode, because it is not msc device" like before!
    what am I doing wrong????
OH I just did the alternative method & it worked!!!!! THANK YOU!
just one thing if I set it to 1080p & the TV is 720p what will it happen?
Thanks again I nearly gave up, you're great!

Your only fault was to press boot to flash mode, because, if you got no blue light and flash tool found rk android device you're already in flash mode... lol.

There's no native 1080 p on mk808b without flashing a 1080p kernel, which causes heading problems, so better let it be 720p, then also xbmc runs great.

Search for the custom xaf xbmc and run it with mx player.

You see, if you'll be patient, you're learning... ;)

Thank you again for the suggestion!
On the subject of resolution you said better leave it at 720p, I have flashed to 1080p but do you mean I have to flash back & revert & choose 720p & the Kernel etc. or just change the settings in the menu to 1280x720 (I think) in the HDMI setting?

No you can let it be 1080p, but try to check your rk3066 temperature if your watching native 1080p to avoid heating problems.

I personally use a small 40mm fan powered by 5v usb... my device is never too hot...lol

Just try it and check from time to time.

well as I'm installing this for my mum & she is not into technology I think its safer if I revert back to 720p as I dont want comebacks & she lives far from me & I want xbmc to work great!
-so, as before I start the ROM FLash Tool.exe
    -erase NAND
-select 720p & match the kernel
    -& flash again
    have I missed a step?
Is there anyway to change back to 720p without losing everything again?

You can try to flash the kernel alone and deselect the other img files in flash tool...
