I really like this device, screen is brilliant, design is tight and looks AND feels good. Battery seems decent... but my touchscreen sucks! I have confirmed like all over the place, this IS most definitely an N101-II Single-Touch is great, but multi-touch is not... I noticed it while playing Mass Effect: Infiltrator at first. I couldn't walk and look around at the same time (two thumb controls) without the looking around being all jerky. Pretty much unplayable. I downloaded multi-touch tester to confirm... sure enough, with two fingers on the screen the one the right (side with ports) will CONSTANTLY flicker when being moved about. UGH! Almost a perfect product.... I am kind of really really hoping this is a firmware issue so it would be cool if some other owners could test. My device is loaded with: Kernel Version: 3.0.8+ jp@tchip-MS-7680 #190 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 8 16:16:24 CST 2012 Firmware Version: (N101DC@_RT5631_NT11003_GT8105_RK903_AT38_OV2659_OV2659_RK30HDMI_GS1_OTG@120808_V11)_(MC_CN@120808)_V404.11_TL12 Build Number: rk30_ics_v2.23.00 rk30sdk-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D eng.jp.20120808.150334 test-keys GoLauncher was loaded out of the box so I am fairly certain I am on newer firmware than the poster that did the initial review. Cheers and thanks for any insight you all can provide! Roman
I have just flashed my N101 II with the same firmware and it seems OK, however on the other firmware that came with the device I saw the same problem. I have only tested on Antutu on the #190 firmware and it's smooth with both thumbs - downloading ME at the moment. A firmware is being made based on the romdump I made, will post a link once it's completed. It's worth testing that before you send your tablet back.
Hmm, in Antutu it seems OK, it's sensitive but works well. On ME it still skips. I'm not sure what to make of that. If it's OK on Antutu then it should be fine on ME as well. I tried the exact same thumb positions as well, one on the bottom left and one of hte bottom right - I moved them in circles.
Just tested the multi touch tester and it picks up 10 points and follows 9-10 ???? I have found the unit to lag and freeze very briefly but could be standard for android tablets ?
I am very interested to try a different firmware. I will try to test with Antutu, I didn't know they had a multi-touch test. I have been using a Multi-touch tester from the App Market and when I put two thumbs on the device and rotate them in circles (lower left and lower right) the thumb on the right constantly skips. Makes game playing that requires that kind of dual control useless . Anyhow, as soon a someone posts some firmware I will flash it and give it a go. In the mean time I will try antutu. If any of you don't mind spending $7 you can get EA's Mass Effect Infiltrator and see how the game control works. That is where I first noticed it. It pretty much makes the game unplayable. Regards and thanks! Roman
I have ran NOVO 3, Mass Effect, and many others on the PIPO Max M1 9.7" RK3066 device so it isn't the chipset . The touchscreen definitely shows issues inside of the "Multitouch Tester" app (the one that puts a colored circle around each touchpoint and keeps a total count in the center of screen). So disappointing. I am LOVING the tablet otherwise. Design is wonderful. Having spent a day with it, I still prefer the 9.7" size device to this one (the 4:3 formfactor is just so much nicer imho, the 16:9 feels unbalanced when held in portrait and is impossible to type on when held in wide mode) but I LOVE the design overall. The device just feels awesome to hold. I really want to check out some different firmware, if this is a hardware issue I have to send this unit straight back to my supplier as I can't carry it . Which is really disappointing considering how great the rest of it is. Will wait and see for at least a couple more days. Regards, Roman
Can you make a small video of the issue? Just so I can see if it's the same as my device. Firmware should be ready within a day or so.
Sorry, I know it wouldn't have taken much time (and I probably would have done it except...) but TOUCH IS FIXED! I think at least... I am going to get Mass Effect again just to make sure but according to Multi-Touch Tester, it is smooth and good for 2 or 3 points. It is still a bit rough for 9 or 10 points but 2 or 3 seem very good. The older firmware fixed it! Hopefully battery and stability is all still good . Thanks a ton for the help with this! Can start selling this unit soon now! Regards, Roman
First of all, a big hello to all of you here! On Wednesday i became a proud owner of the N101 II. So far, I'm really loving it, but I also have the multitouch issue. I've tried a few multitouch testers, and they all give the same result. One finger - works flawlessly, two fingers - one works, the other one jitters when moving it around. Also, I've noticed a certain lag. When you put two or more fingers at the same time on the screen, there's a slight delay until all are recognized one by one. Can someone shed some light on the problem and what's the best solution for it. I'm a newbie regarding tablet roms and customization, so please be gentle. Details are as follows: Model number: N101 DUAL CORE2 V11 Android version: 4.0.4 Kernel Version: 3.0.8+ jp@tchip-MS-7680 #203 SMP PREEMPT Mon Aug 13 14:18:41 CST 2012 Firmware Version: (N101DC2_RT5631_NT11003_GT8105_RK903_AT38_OV2659_OV2659_RK30HDMI_GS1_OTG@120813_V11)_(MC_CN@120813)_V404.11_TL12 Build Number: rk30_ics_v2.23.00 rk30sdk-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D eng.jp.20120813.120232 test-keys
I managed to fix it after Elijah semi-bricked it with their firmware. The problem now is trying to fix the screen image retention issue. From what I can see gaming and movies etc is perfect, but normal use leaves image retention.
What about firing up one of those flashlight apps that turn the whole screen bright white. That might help clear it. Almost like what those wipe screens do on LCD and Plasma TVs.
