Allwinner – a wellknown developer of relatively cheap ARM SoCs (think A10, A20 or A31) in China – is getting ready to join the pack of multi core ARM devices using the big.LITTLE Processing concept. Not much is known about the A80 Octa nor its GPU – it is should get ready by the end of 2013 (but it reads more like Q1/2 of 2014). Allwinner's products has been mostly used lower end tablets - with A31 being the 1st exception to that rule - if you want.

That might be a positive for all Linux@ARM fans as Allwinner SoCs work reasonable well in this space - at least some "...The company also a reputation for providing more documentation about its chips than some competitors, which has it a relatively popular platform for folks interested in porting Linux to run on TV boxes, tablets, and other devices with ARM-based chips....:

So little is known about the processor that some speculate it to be a 4 x A15 cores plus 4xA7 - but it could be as well as be 4xA12 (--> see also Rockchips RK32XX) and 4x A7 cores.

On the 'China Sourcing Fair' representatives of AllWinner are said to have claimed that the A80 uses LITTLE HMP (Eng. heterogeneous multi-processing), which could be based on four core Coerex-A7 and Cortex-A15. The concepts allow to use all cores when the computing power is needed.
