    Where in the device (mk808b) do I find out if it's RK903 or MTK chipset

    the build.prop shows my device as:

    ro.build.description=rk30sdk-eng 4.1.1 JRO03H eng.olsen.20130117.144408
    ro.product.brand=rk30sdk
    ro.product.name=rk30sdk
    ro.product.device=rk30sdk
    ro.product.board=rk30sdk

    Other issue I need to find out is how to extract ramdisk+kernel from boot.img as I need to switch the flash (4.6GB of available space) and the /mnt/external_sd (I have a 64GB sdcard). I need to do this to be able to use the external sdcard (64GB) to install apps. IN order to do that I need to modify the init.rc file that is part of the boot.img. I have tried that using the kitchen tool but for some reason it comes with the following error message:

    "
    1. Android 'magic' header not found at start of boot.img
    2. Checking if it exists elsewhere ...
    3. Warning: Android header not found in boot.img (unsupported format)
    (I got the boot.img with the command: 'cat /dev/block/mtdblock2 > /mnt/sdcard/boot.img)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You only can find the Chipset on the Device itself, open it and look on your WiFi Chipset !

    For your other Problem you have to ask a ROM Developer for some help...
    Tuen (#28) maybe you can help ?!

    to fix magic header in boot.img (normally i think the kernel.img in boot.img) you need rkcrc to add the extra header information..

    could you explain how to open this mk808b device, it's like sealed and not screws anywhere. I bricked it by flashing a new boot.img image so I really need to find a solution to flash a custom ROM, but I have not idea how to do it yet, as the device is in a looping-boot/reboot and only shows a broken android robot with a red triangle and a question mark.

    Did you get it recognized on Windows ???
    So did you get into Flash Mode ?!?!

    MK808B is easy to open, just take a Screwdriver or a Guitar Clip and open it at the USB Side. Simply open it, it´s a bit hard, but it has no Screws.

    I think it isn´t bricked, but if, also no Problem to erase Nand again.
    If you take a Paper Clip, there are 2 holes on top of the MK808B, one is for the LED and one for the Reset Button ! Press and hold the Reset Button with a Paper Clip and while doing this, connect the MK808B with only the OTG Port to your PC and it should be recognized by Windows !

    Also to say, please do a Thread at the correct MK808B Forum with Support Prefix !

    I'll have to wait for the USB a male to a male cable to connect it to my PC as I have a bunch of USB cables but with different endings and none of them can connect it to the PC. So in 2 or 3 business days I'll get the cable to start trying to fix it. I did open it and confirmed that it's a RK903 to accommodate the right ROM

    Stop ! Why don´t you use the Charger Cable ???? It fits to the OTG Port as well and also the USB A Ending to your PC !

    You only need USB A to mini USB
    ??? :confused:
    And to get it recognized pon your PC use a Paper Clip like I at the Attachment !

    Btw... the blue Light should not light !

    Only connect the OTG on the Side and then press the Paperclip and by holding it, connect to your PC´s USB A Backport ! The RKBatchTool should turn into green Light..
    then follow Step 8 here...

    http://vondroid.com/threads/how-to-flash-a-rochchip-device.7373/#.UXBUo4LQSbE

    I don´t know what you are doing, but for a normal Flash this is the Way to flash it...
    If this doesn´t help, please help us to help you and open a new Thread with the Problem you have at the MK808B Section and tag me with mrkus21 in your Post. Maybe I have to explain how you can get it back to life, but it should be not as hard as you think !!! So don´t do something else or try anything...

    MK808B
    Hello,

    I have an MK808B for some weeks now. As it is locked down at 1008Mhz and only capable of 720p, I am thinking about flashing it. I managed to open the cover but did not dare to remove the heat absorber, so I do not really know if it is the original or any of the other 2 fake versions.

    What can be the worst that happens if I simply flash it with the ROM found above in your post, mrkus21 ?

    The original kernel is the following:
    3.08+
    olsen_V_402j1 #34
    SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 16 18:14:26 CST 2013

    Build number
    mk808b_402j1_17-01-2013

    It is not 1008MHz it only shows that ! This is a SW Fault !

    Also you don´t have to remove the Heat Spreader, only look at your WiFi Chipset, if you have a little Metal Plate with RK903 or 902, 901 on it, you got an Original. If you got a little Orange PCB soldered on the green Main PCB, you got a Clone !

    I would try Finless 1.7 because the 2.0beta2 has not that Performance as 1.7.
    But you can also try the Original. I think Finless would be better, you got Root, more App Space, and more Tweaks...

    On Finless 1.6a I get smooth 1080p with MX Player using h/w decoding.
    try it.

    Hello, This is my first attempt to update my MK808B. When I try to unzip the 4.2 update it informs me the img file must be in iso format. I am using winzip on a win 7. Is there another program I must use.(as you may already know, and I apologize for, I am a newbie)

    Again I have to say, NOBODY has to apologize, that´s what this Community is for !! We´re all only Humans !! lol

    So why do you want to unzip the Update ??? Can you give me a Link to which Resource you want to flash ?
    Normally you need the update.img to flash it with the RKBatchTool. Or is it a Custom ROM ?
