    PLEASE, SOMEBODY, HELP!

This journey is reaching tragicomic features right from the beginning…

My 82 yrs old father “swimmed” last summer with a 2wks old Doro “pensioner” phone. I thought a waterproof smartphone with direct call icons would be a perfect xmas gift. And then I found Haier W718. Just a perfect!

The phone arrived a couple of days ago:
    Model: W718+ with dual core MTK6572W, 1.2GHz
    Android 4.2.2
    Kernel 3.4.5
    hardvare version VER.A

No Finnish language but I had to get it there somehow. No Gapps “set locale” third party apps worked, so I thought to get into the heart and soul of the phone (root, flash, dash, CFW, CWM, TWR, ABS, ESC and all goodies and tweeks). Never done that before, though…

Found the VonDroid threads and stuff about W718J, which is (to my understanding) the very same phone I had in my hands W718+ BUT IS IT REALLY?

And when I found Tuen’s CFW Haier W718J v1.x 1.1 showing Finnish (Suomi) I was thrilled!
    http://vondroid.com/resources/cfw-haier-w718j-v1-x.403/

I was even more pleased to find Ozhora’s Haier W718J Offical Rom + Root 1.1 with root already made. Excellent!
    http://vondroid.com/resources/haier-w718j-offical-rom-root.375/
No need to hassle with rooting just flash it and then look around a bit before stepping up into Tuen’s version.

I downloaded the both ROMs and a newer flash tool:
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/69jj07z22in7pg8/SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1328.0.183.7z

Since there’s nowhere mentioned anything about newer USB drivers I used the ones provided with the older Driver and Flashtool package:
    http://vondroid.com/resources/driver-and-flashtool-for-haier-w718-phone.123/

Got everything ready and plugged the phone into my PC (with power and USB debugging on). Win7 32bit found it immediately and even installed drivers automatically. And low and behold there it was: My HTC android phone!?!

Started flashing and nothing happened… …I had fell into the same trap as quite a few before me. The driver has to be installed when the phone is OFF and just when you plug the USB in the first time. Got it! This time there was MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM found in the Device Manager.

Started everything all over as per Tuen’s instructions How to Flash Firmware using SP_Flash_Tool:
    http://vondroid.com/threads/how-to-flash-firmware-using-sp_flash_tool.9229/#.UqrXttIW2So
The only difference compared to Tuen’s video was the first stage: the red bar just flashed through really fast. Other than that everything went just fine. I was flashing with Ozhora’s Haier W718J Offical Rom.

Closed the flash tool and unplugged the phone from the computer. The end result can be seen in my avatar:
After powering the phone on, it just flashes that striped screen once per second and when I plug it back into my PC, it kind of acts like its going constantly on and off…

Luckily I’m still able to get contact with the phone with the flash tool, but WTF.

Xmas is coming and currently I feel more stupid than the aforementioned swimmer (that phone lasted for two weeks, this one only two days!!!)

    In order to flash :
    Turn off the phone
    Remove the battery
Launch so flash tool and import the scatter file.
    Check all the boxes
Hit download and then plug the phone to your computer. It will start the flash. All the files you need are inside the ROM and in the thread how to dump a w718j.

Thanks for super fast replies, but honestly I'm at the moment a bit lost. And like all the newbies, hate being there...

Tuen, what do you mean by trying Ozhora's firmware sump? Is that some other resource I've missed in the forum?
As said I've downloaded and extracted the official ROM. Isn't that the sump you are referring to? Looks like this:

Then I'm flashing exactly the way Ozhora instructs, which looks like this:

I have selected "MTK_AllInOne_DA.bin" from flash tool folder as my download agent and "MT6572_Android_scatter.txt" from official ROM folder for scatter-loading file.

Dunno what else I should do...

Yes, will do (as have done earlier).

Now I have an old XP laptop up and running. These are the steps I will do:
    1. Have the latest Flash Tool extracted into "Flashtool" folder (done already)
    2. Install MediaTek preloader USB driver(done already)
    3. Extract Haier W718J Offical Rom + Root 1.1 into "Officialrom" folder (done already)
    4. Remove the battery from the phone (done already)
    5. Launch Flash Tool with MTK_AllInOne_DA.bin from "Flashtool" folder as Download Agent
    6. Select MT6572_Android_scatter.txt from "Officialrom" folder as Scatter-loading file
    7. Check all the boxes
    8. Hit download
    9. Plug the phone to the PC
    10. Unplug the phone from the PC
    11. Put in the battery back in and power on.
Will report soon what happened. But if there's any step I'm missing - Please reply right away... (now if have an additional task to do: bed time story time for our yougster...)

Done. No help. The very same result: blinking continues.

Sorry Tuen - I also relized you had a typo with sump, right after I was asking about it. Yep, it's been all the time the Ozhora's official dump I've been flashing. And I've been doing it the same way from the very beginning.

Could it be the W718+ is somehow different than W718J... Dunno. Even the baseband versions were the same, mine had a later date but otherwise everything was matching.

Just wondering: mine was NOT rooted. I tried SRSRoot tool, but it did not work, since it was offering Legolas and some other chaps, but mine had Boromir and superuser installation failed with error #9. So no changes to the phone was made.
That was one of the main reasons I went directly flashing with the Ozhora's official dump.

What now? Feeling a bit hopeless...
Do you know any other forums or places where to try to get additional help. Is there any tool available which I could use to try to peek into the phone, what's going on in it... or something.

Do you have the green circle right after the flash or not ?

Mine was rooted with the boromir method but you need to install SuperSu and not Superuser :)

    Yeah, got the green circle.
I had read your thing with SuperSu so I tried to select also that from the phone during SRSR. The same thing: error #9.

    Ladies and Gentleman

I'm ready to give up. I believe having right (?) versions of USB driver and SPF tool. Tried flashing this W718+ assumingly the same as W718J now with Ozhora's and Tuen's original dumps. Tried flasing with battery in and out, just plugging in, or plugging while pressing vol- or vol+ or power key or with all them pressed together (luckily I've got three hands).

My concern lies around the USB diver, since it throws various COM ports during the flash and sometimes even during the flash...
And the fact that the preloader phase during the flash kind of "flashes" through and I think at that point something vital goes to bit heaven.

Finally I though to take a look what SPF tool logs tell me about the process. Quite depressing at the first glance (unless that's normal with everybody). Here's a sample from "BROM_DLL_V5.log":
    ================= STATUS_E CODE BEGIN =================
    ( 0) S_DONE
    (1000) S_STOP
    (1001) S_UNDEFINED_ERROR
    (1002) S_INVALID_ARGUMENTS
    (1003) S_INVALID_BBCHIP_TYPE
    (1004) S_INVALID_EXT_CLOCK
    (1005) S_INVALID_BMTSIZE
    (1006) S_GET_DLL_VER_FAIL
    (1007) S_INVALID_BUF
    (1008) S_BUF_IS_NULL
    (1009) S_BUF_LEN_IS_ZERO
    (1010) S_BUF_SIZE_TOO_SMALL
    (1011) S_NOT_ENOUGH_STORAGE_SPACE
    (1012) S_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY
    (1013) S_COM_PORT_OPEN_FAIL
    (1014) S_COM_PORT_SET_TIMEOUT_FAIL
    (1015) S_COM_PORT_SET_STATE_FAIL
    (1016) S_COM_PORT_PURGE_FAIL
    (1017) S_FILEPATH_NOT_SPECIFIED_YET
    (1018) S_UNKNOWN_TARGET_BBCHIP
    (1019) S_SKIP_BBCHIP_HW_VER_CHECK
    (1020) S_UNSUPPORTED_VER_OF_BOOT_ROM
    (1021) S_UNSUPPORTED_VER_OF_BOOTLOADER

And that list of complete and utter failures just goes on forever...

Exactly what I had in mind. Luckily I'va got one more "virgin" XP PC (no drivers installed) available...
I'm collecting a toolbox of stuff on a SD card:
    1. SPF tool, V3.1328 (latest as I believe) - or should it be some other version
    2. USB driver - there I'm the most concerned: there are quite a few sources available on various forums, some are just .inf files, some complete installation packages...
    3. W718J dumps you guys have generously shared
